Time to get walking again!

With Spring on its way we start to think about getting out to walk in the beautiful English countryside again, but where to find new and interesting walks?

Walking in Leicestershire https://www.walkinginengland.co.uk/leics has loads of walks to download and print, free, it also has books of walks, details of all the walking groups in the county and much more. Whether you want to walk on your own or with a group all the information is there in one place.

John Harris (who maintains the website) said ‘There is so much walking information on the web but it is difficult to find. Walking in Leicestershire (part of the Walking in England website) has brought it together in one place so whether you are walking from home, or away on holiday, you will be able to find a walk suitable for you’.

With walks from half a mile to twelve miles plus long, and a note of suitability for pushchairs and wheelchairs, everyone can find a walk to enjoy.

So home or away, check out the websites and get walking!

Volunteering for Hospice Hope

Hospice Hope was formed at the closure of the Sue Ryder hospice at Staunton Harold in 2002.  Its vision was to see pop in centres and a day support centre operating within our district for individuals who have a condition that leads to a reduction in quality of life or who have been diagnosed with a life limiting condition as well as offering support to their partner or carer.  This vision has been largely achieved and since the Covid pandemic it has been expanded to cover Counselling and Befriending for both of which there is a great need.  The number of people we serve has risen by 90% since the beginning of lockdown.

Now that lockdown is over, the support cafes have reopened and we are looking to make concrete plans to move into our Day Care Centre for the community to be called Bright Hope House in Swannington.  This is expected to be towards the end of 2022.

In order to achieve all of this, the Charity relies heavily upon its volunteers and as the need for its services grow, more volunteers are needed.

So here is an opportunity to join one of the most established Charities in the area and to contribute to helping and supporting those individuals who have a condition that leads to a reduction in quality of life or who have been diagnosed with a life limiting condition as well as offering support to their partner or carer.

The variety of volunteering opportunities is wide and you could be a befriender, a support café helper, a driver, an event attender or indeed any other way that springs to mind.

Our amazing team will be delighted to welcome you on board, so do not delay this opportunity, contact us today by phone, email or through our website.
