Great news! We have extended the deadline for submitting grant applications for the Weekend of Action. The new closing date is Wednesday 19 June 2024 at 5pm and even if you’re not applying for a grant you can still register your activity right up until the day before the event.

The Love Your Neighbourhood Weekend of Action is the first event of its kind within the district of North West Leicestershire.

We want communities to come together to Love Your Neighbourhoods during the weekend of 6 and 7 July 2024 and take the opportunity to make impactful environmental improvements to the neighbourhoods where you live.

We hope the event will help communities build greener, safer, healthier, more inclusive neighbourhoods.

How to get involved

Individuals, community groups, tenants’ associations, parish and town councils, uniformed groups, PTA’s plus many more can get involved by organising a community event in your neighbourhoods.

This could be anything you can think of which has an impact on your environment and gets the community involved. Here are some examples:

  • Organising a litter picking event in the community
  • Planting in shared spaces
  • Preparing for wildflowers
  • Recycling initiatives
  • Installing communal composting bins
  • Helping elderly neighbours with their gardens
  • Holding recycling events
  • Installing hanging baskets to community buildings.

Register your event

We are recording all events held by community groups, parishes, and individuals across the district, through a simple registration form. We want to collect information on all events happening across the district and celebrate volunteers’ work.

All you need to do is let us know what you are planning on doing, how many volunteers are taking part and how many hours your event is going to last.

Weekend of action grant

Constituted community groups, parish councils, schools and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for money to help deliver your project.

You can apply for equipment or the Love Your Neighbourhood grant of up to £150 to help with the cost of running your event. The closing date for grant applications is Sunday 9 June 2024. There will be a link to apply at the end of this registration form. Applications will be determined within 2 weeks of submitting a complete application.

After the event there will be an online form available for you to submit photos, data, stories of success and quotes from your neighbourhood event. The more data we collect, the more evidence of the impact we will have.

Every event you record will make a difference.

It would also be really helpful if you could let as many people as possible know about this project, please post on your social media streams and display the attached poster on noticeboards. Please visit https://www.nwleics.gov.uk/LYNweekend to register your event and apply for a grant.
